How to Tell Whether Paid Ads Produce Leads

Paid ads are producing leads when you can match each inquiry to the campaign that brought it and see how many of those inquiries became sales conversations. Clicks, impressions and cost per click show activity inside the ad platform. Only a lead record tied to its ad source shows whether the spend is working.

Why don't clicks tell you whether ads are working?

A click means someone loaded your page. It does not say whether they filled in a form, or whether the person who did was a good fit. Two campaigns can have the same cost per click and very different results once you count the inquiries and conversations that followed.

Reports that stop at the ad platform leave out the part of the funnel that matters to sales. The numbers worth comparing sit further along: inquiries, qualified leads and closed customers per campaign.

What do you need to track from ad to lead?

Three records connect the ad to the outcome:

The first record is usually captured with tracking parameters on the ad's link, which the form stores when it is submitted. The last one is a status your team updates in the CRM as the lead moves along.

How does the Meta Conversions API fit in?

Meta's Conversions API lets advertisers send marketing data from their servers, websites, apps and CRM systems to Meta for ad targeting and measurement. Meta's documentation says server events are processed like events sent through the Meta Pixel, so the two can run alongside each other.

For a business, this means an event recorded in your own system, such as a form submission, can be reported to Meta from your server. It also means the CRM becomes a source of ad data, which only works if leads are being recorded there in the first place. A custom CRM or a CRM connected to your website forms supplies that record.

Why does the landing page decide so much?

The ad makes one promise and the page has to repeat it. If an ad offers a free audit and the page opens with a general company introduction, the visitor has to work out whether they are in the right place, and some will leave instead.

Put the ad's offer in the first lines of the page, keep one clear action and keep the form short. A page built for one campaign is also easier to measure, since every visit to it comes from the same source. What makes a website generate leads covers the structure in more detail.

How often should you review ad results?

Review on a regular schedule, but wait for enough inquiries to compare. A campaign with a handful of leads can look good or bad by chance, so avoid changing the audience, the creative or the page until the numbers are large enough to mean something. Change one thing at a time so you can tell which change moved the results.

Where does organic content fit?

Organic posts can be tracked the same way. A link in a post or a profile can carry a source tag, so inquiries from organic traffic appear in the same CRM view as paid ones. That lets you compare channels on inquiries and outcomes, and see whether the organic feed supports the same offer the ads promote. Running ads and organic content as one funnel explains how the two fit together.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good cost per lead?

It depends on what a lead is worth to your business. Work backwards from the value of a closed customer and the share of leads that close. Canexi Studios does not quote a benchmark number, because it varies by offer and market.

Do I need a CRM to track leads from ads?

Not strictly. A spreadsheet can record the source and outcome of a small number of leads. A CRM becomes useful when lead volume grows or several people follow up, because the source stays attached to each record.

Can paid ads work without a lead-generation website?

They can send traffic to any page, but results depend on that page. A page that repeats the ad's offer and has one clear action is easier to measure, and visitors do not have to work out whether they are in the right place.

How long before ad results are reliable?

There is no fixed number of days. It depends on how much traffic and how many inquiries the campaign produces. Wait until you have enough inquiries to compare campaigns before making changes.
